Over the years I’ve led quite a few games. For awhile my wife refused to unpack my suitcase because she knew there would be another game somewhere soon in the country and I would be driving or flying off. I would like to say that it was my keen leadership skills that everyone was after and that I would lead players into the depths of hell only to emerge victorious at the end of the epic 24 hour battle. I’d like to but I’m not sure that would be 100% true.
Part of being a General is being on stage and getting into your character’s role and making sure all have fun and want to play again. Winning or losing isn’t the goal in the presentation of the game but it can make the difference between a good game and a great one. Dressing in wild costumes and doing your best required accent is always a plus but just going out in front the people can be so much fun. I’m not the only one out there getting outlandish in fact I think there are several far better at it than me.
There is a TON of work that goes on to put on a 24 hour scenario paintball game but it is the presentation at the game briefings that I believe sets the tone. If you’ve never played in one there is so much fun that you are missing. The non stop action, camaraderie and paint flying everywhere in a final battle is an experience you can find no where else. But mostly what I see is a ton of cameras, comments and gawkers having the highlight of their game right there at the beginning before a shot is ever fired.
To give you an idea of what the first 1% of a 24 hour paintball game is like I’ve put two videos in just so you can get a taste. If slinging paint, running missions and stumbling through the woods at 2 am is your cup of tea, then this should be right up your alley.
Enjoy and I’ll see you at the next game.
